For makeup lovers everywhere, finding the perfect foundation can be a never-ending journey. From finding the right shade to the perfect formula, it can take a lot of trial and error to find the foundation that fits your needs. These two foundations have been all the rave since they launched, and yes i am referring to the Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin foundation & the Haus Labs Triclone skin foundation. I decided to test both of them out on my combination skin to see which would hold up better, continue reading to find out which one did…
Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin Foundation
Makeup by Mario is a brand that was founded by celebrity makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic. The Surreal Skin Foundation promises to give you a flawless, airbrushed look while still feeling like you’re not wearing any makeup. It is a medium coverage foundation that claims to be lightweight and comfortable to wear. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which is known for its hydrating properties. It comes in 30 different shades, offering a decent range for most skin tones.
One of the key ingredients in the surreal skin foundation is glycerin, which helps to hydrate the skin and create a smooth, even canvas. It also contains a blend of antioxidants and vitamins that help to protect and nourish the skin.
The surreal skin foundation is buildable, meaning you can easily layer it to achieve your desired level of coverage. It has a luminous finish that looks like skin.
I tried the foundation in the shade 20N, which was a great match for my skin tone. You can find this foundation here.

Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Foundation
Haus Labs was founded by Lady Gaga and is known for its bold, innovative products. Their foundation is no exception, as it comes in a unique bottle that looks as stylish as it is functional. The foundation is available in 50 shades, making it a great option for a wide range of skin tones.
The Triclone skin foundation claims to be a long-wearing, medium coverage formula that contains 20+ skincare ingredients. It contains a blend of hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which helps to hydrate the skin and create a smooth, even canvas. It also contains a special blend of microspheres that help to blur imperfections and create a soft-focus effect. It has a natural, luminous finish that looks like skin but provides more coverage than the surreal skin foundation.
A few ingredient highlights:
– Fermented Arnica: helps visibly reduces redness and irritation.
– Intellizen 7 Complex™: proprietary blend of medicinal herbs that promote healing and calming.
– BioFerment 7 Complex™: Proprietary blend of super antioxidants that protect the skin from stress.
I tried the foundation in the shade 425 however, this was too neutral for my skin tone. My ideal shade is 440, however, it was sold out at the store. You can find this foundation here.

Comparison
Both the surreal skin foundation and the Haus Labs foundation are great options for anyone looking for a high-quality foundation that provides decent coverage and looks like skin. However, there are a few key differences to consider when deciding which one is right for you.
They both have a natural, luminous finish with the surreal foundation being a bit more luminous due to the little specs of shimmer it contains.
In terms of coverage, the surreal skin foundation is light – medium, while the Haus Labs foundation is a true medium coverage. This means that the surreal skin foundation is a better option for anyone who wants a lighter, more natural-looking coverage, while the Haus Labs foundation is a better option for anyone who wants more of a fuller coverage.
They are both cruelty free, vegan and gluten free, However, the triclone foundation is categorized under the “clean at sephora” tab, while the surreal skin is not.
Both formulas are indeed lightweight, and blended seamlessly into my skin. Both provided buildable coverage without feeling heavy or cakey, which is always a plus. They both gave me a natural-looking glow.
I had the two foundations on for about 8 hours (see video below). I didn’t touch up or reapply on either side. I found that the surreal skin foundation emphasized my pores a lot more than the triclone skin. I also found that the surreal skin started to break apart slightly.
The key difference between both foundations is in the amount of coverage being offered. I do feel that the surreal skin foundation is best for those with more dry/normal skin & combination/oily skin types can get away with the triclone skin foundation IF set properly.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Haus Labs Triclone skin foundation to anyone who has combination skin like me. I hope this helps to simplify your decision. Let me know your thoughts in the comments if you have tried either of the two.
