On March 8th we celebrated International Women’s Day, and it got me thinking about womanhood, and what being a woman truly means to me.
At a much younger age, around 8 or 9, i would constantly wish i was a boy. At that age the gender roles and expectations really began to sink in, and to me boys were allowed to live their best lives with less control and rules compared to girls. It did not make any sense to me, and the only explanation i would get was “that’s just how it is.”
It is sad because these enforced roles greatly impact how we live our lives as women, they impact the decisions we make, our thoughts, and how much of our potentials we are able to reach. We are constantly told to be subtle and submissive which to me, are not characteristics of someone who has dreams and goals to accomplish. These roles and expectations have also managed to create a divide amongst us women, leading to comparisons, envy, and wanting to be the best at the detriment of a fellow woman.
Womanhood is such a precious and special gift from God. It is quite disheartening that much of the world does not recognize this. We as women must also not fall into this mindset and manifest society’s view of us in our lives. We embody so much power and greatness within us that we must recognize in order to accomplish great things.

We must also remember that empowered women empower women! Hence, this beautiful shoot with fellow beauty and fashion bloggers. We came together to really lay emphasis on the fact that there is room for more than one woman to be successful. We underestimate the power of true support and encouragement, and have replaced it with a double tap or thumbs up. Simple messages saying “You’re doing great, I am proud of you” with a genuine heart or a referral can change so much.
My friends and I are introducing to you all the #BestieChallenge. It simply means supporting a fellow woman as though she were your best friend. We hope you can all participate and collaborate with other women in your field, tell a story of how you met and use the hashtag as well.

A couple things i want every woman and man reading this, because if men don’t also readjust their understanding or belief of who a woman is, the cycle of seeing a woman as less than, and as someone who is meant to be behind you rather than beside you will continue and be passed on.
If you are ever in doubt of who you are or of the strength and power within you, remember that you are Beautiful, Valuable, and God’s Masterpiece.
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.”
Songs of Solomon 4:7
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
Proverbs 31:25
“You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.”
Isaiah 62:3
“God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”
Psalm 46:5
There are many more beautiful verses like these which can be applied to any situation you face. Don’t give up on your dreams and never lose hope, You’re a Woman for God’s sake, that’s not what we do!
