Turning 22 in a few days, and to be quite honest… It had me shook for a moment there like HUH?? I remember my 16th birthday like it was yesterday! Where has time gone??
I definitely want to start training my mind to appreciate the process of aging, and understand that getting older is a blessing.
The past 22 years have been one hell of a ride though, and i’ve certainly picked up a few gems and life lessons along the way. Here we go…
1. Your Time is your Power
I titled this ‘Your Time is your Power’ because i’ve had the first hand experience of how powerless and not in control you feel, when you have so much to get done (that you probably procrastinated and left till the last minute), and now you feel like you’re carrying the world on your shoulders. It creates a domino effect as well, cause you feel stressed, you worry, you don’t sleep, then you sleep during the day, and it just becomes a whole cycle of unproductivity! A known fact is that we all have the same 24 hours in a day. The big question is, how do you spend yours? What do you do with your 24 hours? What are you devoting your time to? Are you building, stalling, or even regressing yourself within these 24 hours? I’ve learnt that the earlier i begin practicing how to manage my time wisely and aim to always have a productive day, the more i am able to accomplish. Give it a go! Write down your goals for the day, week and month. Work towards them everyday! A little trick is waking up earlier. Honestly, at the end of the day you’ll feel like you’ve had more than 24 hours to get stuff done!! 😉

2. Appreciate & Live in the Moment always
So setting goals and prioritizing is essential, however it doesn’t mean that if we don’t achieve those goals when we planned to, we are automatically failures.. No!
As much as i’ve learnt to use my time wisely and get things done when they need to be done.. i’ve also learnt to take a step back and breathe. Live in the moment. Appreciate where I currently am in life. Being thankful that i’m still alive, and every moment of everyday is another opportunity to turn things around. I may not be where i would like to be or where i planned to be at 22, however, i’m definitely at a better place than where i was just a year ago, and i’m thankful for that.
Living in the moment is also about mentally being present. For instance, having a girls night out or spending time with family without feeling the urge to reach for your phone. These are precious moments that we don’t always appreciate, and to be honest you don’t know when the next one will be.
3. Live Fearlessly, Take Risks
The third life lesson is to try new things, switch up your routine, travel, experience new cultures..
Our world has sooo much to offer, and so much to be seen for you to stay in your comfort zone and play it safe. Whenever i’m considering trying something outside of what i’m used, i always ask myself, “Girl, what do you have to lose?” And most of the time, its nothing major so why the hell not give whatever it is a try? A youtuber i watch called Patrick Starrr always says “Life opens up when you do”, and he is a living example of that statement.
Of course there are big life decisions that you might have to take a little longer to think about, and weigh the pros and cons.. but nonetheless, Do Not Let Fear Stop You From Reaching Your Potential!
4. Stay Joyful!
The final life lesson is to stay joyful! It is so beyond essential that you guard your heart and you never let anything or anyone steal your Joy or happiness. Being genuinely Joyful and happy attracts so many amazing things and people towards you because naturally, everyone loves a joyful soul.
Let go of anything stressing you out, things that put your mind or heart in a dark place. Negative thoughts are very draining!! It literally eats you up from the inside out. Remember also that what you give out is what you get back. If you’re constantly putting out negative energy, that is what you will continue to get in return.
Another major thing to avoid doing in order to be joyful, is to stop comparing yourself to others! In this social media era where we are exposed to millions of people, it is very easy to see someone you ASSUME has a better life than you, and automatically believe yours is worthless.
All that glitters is not Gold my friends, and the moment you stop comparing yourself to others, the happier you will be!
Keep positive energy and people around you always! And if you feel like you’re someone who is constantly having negative thoughts about yourself and others, start making conscious effort to erase those thoughts as they come in. Like i said, every moment of everyday is another opportunity to make a change and improve your life.
There’s this beautiful quote i have hung up in my bedroom, it says..
“An Entire Sea of water cannot sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarly, the negativity of the world cannot put you down unless you allow it get inside you.”
